Filmed on location in both the UK and Bangladesh, this DVD provides a clear indication of some of the issues associated with the manufacturing techniques that are required to make the clothes and textile products that we use every day.

The film discusses the new technologies that allow companies to develop and control their waste streams, in order to meet governmental targets. The viewers are taken to Bangladesh to view what happens when government controls are not heeded; water supplies are polluted, affecting the poorest residents.

The DVD provides the viewers with a valuable insight into the global issue of environmental impact, and one that does need political intervention to be resolved. It also invites the viewer to think about and discuss the issues in a much broader context, and I can see this footage not only useful in Design and Technology, but also providing a framework for discussion in Media Studies, Geography, and Sociology.

It is easy to navigate the DVD; each chapter is split into between 4 and 10 minute slots. If using this in the classroom, students could be provided with worksheets and background information then asked to look for particular answers whilst viewing the film.

The DVD contains additional resources in the form of a transcript of the film as well as additional questions, providing the teacher with starting points for analysis and discussion.

A worthy addition to the design office bookcase and one that goes a long way to supporting teachers in the classroom in teaching what can be difficult concepts.
